Michael David Crotty, 24 years old, Deputy Chief of Lawrence Park Volunteer
Fire Department and newly hired Firefighter for the City of Erie Bureau of Fire
died Tuesday April 8, 2008 while in performance of firefighting duties.
Michael was born in Erie, Pennsylvania April 14, 1983 to David Crotty and Barbara
Beers Crotty. He was a life long resident of Lawrence Park. He graduated from Iroquois
High School in 2001. He was a member of the Lawrence Park Volunteer Fire Department
for 6 years.
He was a 4 year veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed at Elmendorf AFB,
Anchorage, Alaska. He was Honorably Discharged in August 2007 as an Airman 1st Class
Medic. While in Alaska, Mike was a member of the Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue
Department. Upon discharge Mike returned to Erie and back with the LPFD and was
promoted to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief. He then tested and was hired by the City
of Erie Bureau of Fire as a Firefighter, fulfilling a lifetime dream of being a
career firefighter. He was assigned to Engine Co. No. 6, 3rd Platoon. He also had
tested and was on the candidate list for the Fire Department New York City. Mike
enjoyed weightlifting, firefighting schools and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was preceded in death by a sister Erin Lynn Crotty, Paternal grandparents David
and Martha Crotty. Maternal grandmother Dora Hill and Aunt Mary Lynn Crotty. He
is survived by his parents, David and Barbara Crotty, brother James of Lawrence
Park. Danielle Jackson, his fiancé of Lawrence Park. He is also survived by uncles,
Patrick Crotty, Tim Crotty (Kathy) of Erie, and Joe Crotty (Tina) of Titusville,
Pa.; aunts Maureen Crotty/Hardesty (Jim) of Erie, Jessica Crotty, Montpelier, Vermont.
Grandparents Ray and Ellen Baybrook, Orlando, Fla. Mike’s best friends Joe and Tom
Falk and Shaun Miller, and his special cousin Megan Crotty. Many aunts, uncles,
numerous cousins and close friends.
